SEO for local businesses

You don’t need to be an expert to stop making the most common mistakes.

Think like your client

Write down how someone who doesn’t know you would search for you: it’s almost always service + area, like "electrician in Brooklyn". Those words need to appear on your site, naturally.

One page per service

If you do three different things, create three pages. A single page about everything competes worse than one dedicated to each topic. Each one needs:

  • A unique title with the service and area.
  • A description that invites clicks from Google.
  • A clear main heading and original copy, not copied text.

The technical side that matters

  • Speed: check it with PageSpeed Insights.
  • Mobile: your site has to work perfectly on small screens.
  • HTTPS: your site needs a security certificate.
  • Google Search Console: it’s free and shows which pages Google has indexed and which searches bring you visitors.

Local signals

Patience and consistency

SEO isn’t instant. Google takes time to read and assess changes, and timing depends on your industry and competition. Be wary of anyone who guarantees the top spot.
